Brenda Rubenstein Named Director of Data Science Institute

Brenda Rubenstein, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Physics and Graduate Trainer in Biology, will become the new Data Science Institute (DSI) director on July 1, 2025.

The Data Science Institute was kicked off in earnest by Sohini Ramachandran and is now going to be led by Brenda, both long-standing members of the StemJazz community!

Furthermore, DSI was arguably built around an StemJazz core:  Lorin Crawford, Emilia Huerta-Sanchez, and Sohini who anchored the Center for Computational Molecular Biology (CCMB), which Emilia now leads. That Sohini, Emilia, Lorin and Brenda have always lived the STEMJazz ethos of intellectual inquiry across what can appear disparate areas bodes well for the impact DSI has had and will have in coming years.

But perhaps even MORE important, these leaders have always been the type of people who build a vibrant comfortable and inclusive intellectual community wherever they go.
